I need to change my hard drive. Will XP have probs?
When you are finished with this procedure, a registry is created that you can use to boot back into Windows XP. This registry was created and saved If the registry trashes and I'm stuck without the abilty to boot in WinXP, how do I get back to the old registry? I'm thinking I have to use NTBackup in WinXP but

If you run VBP from the XP partition the way you have changed boot priority 'on the fly', you will overwrite the XP boot process. NTFS and fdisk
Did you set grub to boot to the old kernel as an option? If not, then you can't get back into Linux except by a circuitous route. Add a section in /boot/grub/menu.lst specifying the old kernel with the newly created symlink. You should then be able to boot back into Linux with the old kernel.

can't access both OSs
when
you want to re-install it, just format the disk/partition, boot back up into the other OS again & copy the backup copy back again. I regularly do a complete format & fresh install that way. It takes about 5 minutes to copy the 677MB in 6661 files in 428 folders of a very minimal WinXP installation.
